As former head of the Party\u2019s regional headquarters\u2019 archive observed, then offices of the secretaries and department heads were designed as (\u2026) <em>a manifestation of gigantomania, designed to mark the position of the party and individual senior functionaries. (&#8230;) They featured strongboxes built into the walls and high-gloss furniture and wall panelling<\/em>.
