3. Courtyard (garages, workshops, gas station)

The courtyard of the Collegium Martineum has always had a number of useful functions. Facing the wall of the tenement house, on the left we see the building formerly occupied by garages and workshops for service cars. A mezzanine was added at first floor level with rooms for drivers on stand-by. On the wall of the adjacent building we can also see a trace of the notice installed here at one time with the warning: No smoking; this area of the courtyard was a petrol station for the Workers’ Party’s official cars. The entrance to the courtyard was closely monitored and off-limits to the public.
