The door used to open onto the largest room of the entire regional headquarters of the People’s United Workers’ Party, i.e. the assembly hall. The overhaul in the 1970s changed slightly the original layout. It was the venue for plenary sessions of the regional committee, meetings with representatives of the national headquarters and various official events of the Party and related institutions and organisations. At the time of the AMU Faculty of History, the room was named after Henryk Łowmiański. It was a venue of major events held by the Faculty and its grand lecture theatre. The characteristic furnishings were the magnificent chandeliers and a table for the party executives. Originally, a Lenin portrait hung above the table, replaced after 1990 by the White Eagle. Today, the former assembly room is an eye-catching part of the Enigma Cipher Centre’s exhibit and can be appreciated in its entirety from the balcony.
