You are now in what used to be the largest room of the entire Workers’ Party’s headquarters, i.e. the former Assembly Hall. It was the venue for plenary sessions of the regional committee, meetings with representatives of the national headquarters and various official events of the Party and related institutions and organisations. The overhaul of the room in the 1970s changed slightly the original layout. Characteristic furnishings included the magnificent chandeliers and a table for the party executives. Originally, a Lenin portrait hung above the table, replaced after 1990 by the White Eagle. At the time of the Faculty of History (1990–2015), the room was named after Henryk Łowmiański. It hosted major events in the life of the Faculty and was its grand lecture theatre.
